6 Things Your Apartment Needs To Survive The Queensland Summer

Australian summers are well known for their extreme temperatures. Eastern Queensland isn’t exactly the Outback, but it does receive its fair share of “dashboard melting” heat. South East Queensland is home to some of Australia’s best beaches most of which are within driving distance offering some relief on the weekends, but during the week can be a struggle. The following list contains the essentials you will need in your apartment to survive the Queensland Summer.

1. Air Conditioning

This one is an obvious one and most modern apartment buildings will have them. Escaping the warm, thick afternoon air into a nice air conditioned living room will make you feel like you’re stepping into your own private cloud. Granted it isn’t always the best option for your wallet, it is definitely worth having even as a back-up plan for those 40+ degree days.

2. Fans

Another obvious one. The more environment and wallet friendly option, ceiling fans work wonders for cooling down a warm, still room. A lot can be said for the good old fan.

3. Pool

Okay, most of these are obvious. There are pool people and there are beach people, however, on a hot afternoon after a long day at work – you’ll take what you can get. A pool is a fun way to cool down and relax and with a lot of new developments building rooftop pools, you get the added bonus of a spectacular view. (Don’t forget the sunscreen).

4. Good aspect.

Not everyone is aware of the importance of aspect. Making sure your apartment is pointing in the right direction can help increase natural light or more importantly, reduce heat. This sometimes means having to make the difficult choice between a particular view and a good breeze, sometimes you get the best of both worlds.

5. A Netflix Subscription.

Now that you’ve made your apartment a cool and comfortable sanctuary, you’ll never want to leave. So why not binge-watch some Netflix Originals.

6. If all else fails: Tiled floor.

A last resort, really. But desperate times call for desperate measures. If the heat becomes too much and for some reason you live in an apartment without any of the above, follow the lead of your pet dog and spread out on a cold tiled floor.
